A company with You in Mind

What do You need to Know

Your Venue

One of the first things you have to come to grips with is the dynamics of your space. What can you accommodate. What size scenery works best. What type of units are you willing to build that will last and easily be able to add to. How much storage space do you have. Where is it located in the building. Is there easy access. What heights are acceptable in the storage area. Do you have a shop. What kind of tools do you have and are they always available. These are some of the most necessary questions.

Your Stage

Section and Ground Plan with basic measurements

Stages will come in a variety of sizes, shapes and heights. It may be a properly designed proscenium stage or may be the floor of a gym. Whatever your performance space we are here to help you best utilize it for your performance or event. All this information is paramount in understanding the construction and design dynamics of your scenery.

Two ground plans, one with basic measurements, the other showing the basic layout and space available.

This is a section view, In this drawing you can determine all heights needed to establish scenic trims and flatage heights.

Your Scenic Stock

Building stock is an extremely important facet in a continuing theatrical environment. First and foremost your scenery

should be designed to fit your space well. The type of construction and the type of material chosen is essential in your production versatility and quality. For example do you need to establish wing spaces on your stage. Will they be rigged to hang or will they be self standing. Should it be a muslin covering or a hard covering. What size platforms do you need to fit the space best and give more choices of use. We hope to help you answer all of these questions.

Your Personel

Understanding the talent that you have access to is paramount to your success in attaining the production values to which you aspire. As you have probably already made connections with parents, other teachers, or professionals in the field, understand the variety of talents they bring to bear and use them to the fullest.

Figure out what strengths you have and then determine what we can provide for you as supplemental support.

What I need for the 1st consultation:

A summary of your show, event, or production
and your concept or vision of the design.
A summary of the strengths and talent that you have to facilitate the production. For example, you may have a number of very talented painters; if that is the case, perhaps a majority of your scenic elements are painted.
A summary of your tools, and shop space.
SEMINARS

SEMINARS are available that cover a wide range of topics concerning stage scenery. The seminars can cover topics such as: basic flat and platform construction,  developing and using stock flats and platforms, scenic painting materials and methods, and using your space to your best advantage. These are some of the topics that can be covered in a seminar.

WORKSHOPS

WORKSHOPS are guided introductions to scenic construction, painting and rigging techniques. The requirements for these sessions are a shop space with adequate power and hand tools. According to the guidance you desire for you and your support, a list of requirements will be sent to you.

There is an expectation that a design is already in place and the support staff or volunteers have some knowledge in stage construction and are somewhat fluent in the use of tools required to construct a set. Workshops are a focused event whether  it be a specific design or a development of working stock. It is paramount to understood what type of space and tools are available.
